Rubbernecking

I hate when people rubberneck to see an accident. This morning we were doing about 10 mph on I-30E going into Dallas. All three lanes of traffic were crawling at a snail’s pace. I kept listening to the traffic report, but they never said anything about I-30 East, but there was something going west. I figured this must be that something, but only after passing it I realized we were rubbernecking for a stalled vehicle! Come on, people! Some of us have someplace to be, and don’t have time to look at a stalled pickup.
Yesterday’s inservices were great in the morning, horrible in the afternoon. The afternoon session was about learning walks, so the information was important, but the way it was presented was ineffective. The presenters kept telling us that they were going to looking in classrooms, talking to students, making sure we were using the Principles of Learning to make instruction and learning effective, etc. How did they present the information to us? “Someone from team 1 please read the first paragraph.” “Now, someone else from team 1 read the second paragraph.” We would certainly be written up on a growth plan if we taught the way they presented.
I loved the gals with whom I sat at my table on Monday and Tuesday. We were a mix of teaching experience with first years, all grade levels, all backgrounds, all levels of craziness. We went through a lot those two days, both professionally and personally. We talked about marriage and divorce, children and students, life and death. We really bonded, and it helped make the inservices more meaningful. However, six of the seven women at that table were in grade-level inservices at Molina High School again today. One was sent ALLLL the way to the outer regions of DISD to Smith High School for her training–yup, you guessed it. Singlemom1 was sent, all by her lonesome, away from her new friends. I sat at a table with some nice people, but it wasn’t the same. No one is really talking, except the two girls who did the AC program together. The trip out there is annoying enough–it takes slightly over an hour to get there, so I am getting to the day care later to get Matthew. I don’t think he noticed–he was playing with all of his friends. Still, it’s going to be a long two more days.
I am taking the little man to the circus this weekend. My brother and his wife are taking my niece, and they invited us to join them. I think Matthew will have a good time, as he likes lights and noise. I know he’ll like the animals. I don’t know about the clowns, though. I think my niece is frightened, and there is a definite creepiness factor to them–you saw the e*trade Superbowl commercial, right? Look it up on YouTube if you don’t know what I’m talking about. It’s my dad’s favorite video on YouTube, closely followed by the “Leprauchaun in the Tree.” Again, look it up. But don’t come tellling me you want to know where the gold at. I don’t know either.
Have to get to bed early tonight, have a long drive to the other school tomorrow for more inservice. Thanks for reading!

Well being terrified of clowns myself, I never realized the enormity of the problem when I went to my first circus at the age of 22…Maybe it’s a good thing for Mathhew to deal with it now. Enjoy!

You know what I always say, “You have to learning crawl before you can learning walk.”
