Cloudy Mondays

August 12, 2008 singlemom1

I will begin with my DISD POL training today: freezing cold “sit and git” affair. The best part was the last 45 minutes, when we got to do an activity and discuss applying the concepts to our classroom. We were told to dress appropriately tomorrow: blankets, scarves, and jackets. Did I mention that it’s nearly 100 degrees outside in Dallas?

I have a profile on Facebook, as many of you know. I love being able to find old friends from high school and college. So many of my old friends have children of their own, some have several. I love to hear stories and think, “Hey, my kid does the same thing!” Today one of my friends wrote about how her kids find her as soon as she sits down on the toilet to pee. At least her kids let her have some privacy. My child is still at that stage where he thinks I have abandoned him forever if I leave the room. I have had an audience in the bathroom for over a year now. I get up at 4:45am so I can shower alone, as Matthew likes to pull the shower curtain back and play peek-a-boo with me while I am showering. Don’t mind the games, but he isn’t too steady on his feet on a wet floor.

I remember in the past my colleagues talking about how they wished divorced and separated parents could get their acts together and come to parent-teacher conferences together so the teacher wouldn’t have to do two conferences on the same child. I never really gave it much thought, but thought certainly two people could spend 30 minutes at the same table discussing their child. I mean, it is their child. Now that I am a separated, soon-to-be divorced mom, I completely understand what those parents were asking for. I don’t want to be in the same state as my ex, let alone in the same room. I have decided that if I have parents that need separate conferences this year, I am going to do all I can to accommodate them. They may have to make accommodations to their work schedule, but I will do all I can to help.

My little boy had a good day at day care today. I miss him when he is gone, but I don’t really worry about him. Ever since I spoke to the management, things have been looking up. Matthew seems to like playing in the kitchen center, as that is where he was the last two days I picked him up. I love how he runs to me, as wellas he can on his bowlegged, wobbly legs, with his hands in the air, waiting for me to pick him up. On Friday a little girl also came up to me with her arms raised. Matthew just stared at her as if she had three heads, as if to say, “What do you think you are doing?!? This is MY Mommy!” I shook her hand and then picked up my man.

That’s all for now. More tomorrow. Thanks for reading!
